WHAT ARE ANGELS AND FAIRIES?
Angels and fairies are both inter-dimensional beings that live in another realm. Angels began in the Old Testament as anonymous messengers of G-d, but evolved over time into immortal messengers from the heavenly realm. Although their appearance is never fully described, Angels have been represented as sphinx-like cherubim.
Fairies on the other hand, tend to be associated with pagan myths and are thought to be supernatural beings that live alongside humans. They are nature spirits, typically associated with nature and forests. There are many types of fairies, including Leprechauns, Trolls and Dwarfs. The primary distinction is that angels are servants of G-d and reside in heaven, while fairies do not. Angels are also immortal and are asexual. Fairies have two sexes.
As a spiritual path or passion, most people tend to follow and connect to the mythical creature called a fairy. By collecting fairy statues for the home or garden, believers are able to connect to their energy and draw fairies into their lives.
WHERE DID ANGELS AND FAIRIES ORIGINATE?
Fairies are mythical and legendary creatures found in the folklore of various European cultures including Celtic, Slavik, German, English and French. There is not a single basis of origin, but rather a combination of folk beliefs from multiple sources. They are often considered “demoted” angels in the Christian belief system or as deities in certain Pagan systems.
In addition to their folkloric origins, fairies were a common feature of Renaissance literature and Romantic art, and were especially popular in the United Kingdom during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The Celtic Revival also saw fairies established as a canonical part of Celtic cultural heritage.
Fairies are generally described as human in appearance and having magical powers. Diminutive fairies of various kinds have been reported through centuries, ranging from quite tiny to the size of a human. These small sizes could be magically assumed, rather than constant. Some smaller fairies could expand their figures to imitate humans. On Orkney, fairies were described as short in stature, dressed in dark grey, and sometimes seen in armour. In some folklore, fairies have green eyes. Some depictions of fairies show them with footwear, others as barefoot. Wings, while common in Victorian and later artworks, are rare in folklore; fairies flew by means of magic, sometimes perched on ragwort stems or the backs of birds. Modern illustrations often include dragonfly or butterfly wings.
HOW TO PRACTICE ANGELS AND FAIRIES
Everyone can bring a spot of fairy magic into their lives with a few simple but effective techniques. The Founder of 3 Wishes Faery Fest, Karen Kay describes how below….
Sit with nature - While you would ideally be in an all-natural environment, you can also embrace nature if you live in a flat or busy city. Treat yourself to a house-plant or some fresh sweetly-scented flowers, and feel the faeries draw closer. Be receptive to any ideas you may receive while sitting among nature, and take a pen and notepad so you can jot down your inspirations.
Sing - Most faeries enjoy listening to music and if they enjoy what they hear, they may wish to investigate – music is like a magnet to them. If you are lucky, they may even join in! The tinkling of a wind chime and the rustle of the trees are a couple of ways in which the faeries may join in with your song.
Turn off your phone - By switching off your mobile device, it will be easier for the Sylphs (elementals of the air) to connect with you. Phones transmit vibrations through airwaves that can be harmful to these delicate beings. Work with them during the twilight hours, as they can more easily contact us through our dreams. Ask for their help through prayer or affirmations repeated three times before going to bed.
Get partying - Attend a party or faery festival during the summer solstice weekend, and you could experience your very own midsummer night’s dream. The faeries love to dance and sing, and when we do the same, it opens our hearts to the higher vibrations of love, peace and joy. Dress up, put on some wings, sprinkle some faery dust and prepare for your wishes to come true!
Care for the Earth - Recycle and pick up litter when you go out for walks. This is a sure way of attracting our faery friends. As guardians of nature, they will naturally be drawn to any humans who love and care for nature as much as they do. You can also try switching your household products for natural chemical-free brands. By looking after the natural environment, you might just find some extra faery magic coming your way.
Connect with your pet - Animals have a natural ability to see and connect with faeries, and if you have a pet, you have probably seen them barking or meowing at unseen beings! Wingless faeries, known as Moor-Men, are beings found on moorland in the countryside. The Moor-Men are perfect allies to work with if you have a pet. Close your eyes and visualise yourself on the wild and rugged landscape presenting your pet for healing.
