July 7 All Global Forgiveness Day

Take advantage of this day to sincerely forgive yourself and others. In letting go of the grudges, feuds, pain and stress and tapping into the healing power of forgiveness, life will instantaneously become calmer and more peaceful.  It is equally important to forgive yourself for any mistakes or regrets. Instead, view the situation as a lesson learned and move on with the wisdom gained. 

 

July 9 Baha’i     Martyrdom of the Bab

This major holy day is celebrated on the 9th of July at noon and commemorates the events surrounding the death of the Báb who was executed in Tabriz, Persia on July 9, 1850.  The Bab was a Messenger of God who announced that he was the gateway to a new era for humankind and that it was his mission to prepare the people for the coming of another, greater Messenger (Baha’u’llah)  who would share divine teachings that would allow humanity to come together to create justice and usher in the long foretold era of universal peace. The Bab was an advocate of the poor. He supported the advancement of women, universal education and the study of science; radical ideas for that time.

 

July 9-10 Astrology New Moon in Cancer

New moons are a time to hit the reset button and leave whatever was not working for you behind, evaluate what is working and set your sights on new dreams and projects; particularly as it relates to family and home.   Ruled by the Moon (the celestial body representing maternal safety and comfort)  Cancer energy is sensitive, fiercely protective and emotional.  Now is the perfect time create personal sanctuaries - physical living spaces where you can feel secure as well as emotional security where you feel “at home” in your own skin.

 

July 17 - 22     Islam The Hajj               

The Hajj, one of the five Pllars of Islam, is a pilgrimage made to the Kaaba ("House of God") in the sacred city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It serves as a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim community and their obedience to God (“Allah”)  The word Hajj means “to attend a journey”  and refers to both the outward act of travel and the inward act of intentions. It is physically demanding yet offers an opportunity to start anew and deepen one’s faith. 

 

July 17 - 18 Kabbalah/Judaism Tisha B’Av

Also known as the Fast of the Ninth of Av, it marks the end of a 3-week period of mourning and is an annual fast day commemorating the date on which a number of disasters occurred - primarily  the destruction of ancient Temples in Jerusalem, other major calamities and the pain and suffering that the Jewish people have experienced for generations. It is generally regarded as the saddest day in the Jewish Calendar.

July 19 - 23 Islam Eid-Ul-Adha

 Also known as Bakra Eid or Festival of the Sacrifice is a holy festival celebrated by Muslims around the world and is expected to be celebrated on Tuesday, July 20th,  however, the actual date is contingent on the sighting of the moon of Dhul Hijjah (last month of Islam calendar.) The holiday is in remembrance of the sacrifice Prophet Ibrahim made out of his strong faith in God (Allah) and is commemorated with the sacrifice of a goat, special prayers and exchanging gifts.

 

July 23 Astrology Full Moon

 July’s Full Buck Moon, as with all Full Moons, sits opposite the Sun and is fully illuminated creating heightened energy, and challenges as well as balance and harmony. These opposing forces can create  feelings of pressure and conflict on the one hand and feelings of grounding and replenishment on the other.    Take advantage of this auspicious time for introspection, recharge your crystals, meditate, journal, practice presence and reflect on what you want versus what you need in order to stay in the positive zone.  You may be surprised by what you discover; so be sure to harness the energy to let go of all that no longer serves your highest self.

July 23 Rastafarian Birthday of Haile Selassie 

 Haile Selassie, was born Tafari Makonnen Woldemikael on July 23, 1892 and served as first regent and then emperor of Ethiopia. He is considered in the Rastafari religion to be God incarnate or the Messiah.  Rastafarians believe that God shows himself on earth from time to time as a human and that Haile Selassie was God in human form. The name of the religion Rastafari comes from combining the title “Ras” (which means “Duke”, “Head” or “Chief”) with the name Tafari.  The Rastafari movement started in Jamaica in the 1930s and many of its followers use cannabis for spiritual connection and reject Western civilization, referring to it as “.Babylon”  The movement’s most famous follower was the world-renown Reggae artist, Bob Marley.  The day is celebrated with festivities, drumming, dancing, prayer and worship to God.

  July 23 - 24 Kabbalah/Judaism Tu B’Av

 Celebrated on the full moon (month of Av in the Hebrew calendar) this holiday is also known as the “Day of Love”. Regardless of your religion or background, take this day as an opportunity to practice unconditional love;  for self, family and community.  “Love thy neighbor as thyself” and the Golden Rule applies to everyone.  Give your kids extra hugs, call your parents, reach out to a friend you haven’t connected with recently, help a neighbor or do a community service project.
