October 6 Astrology New Moon

The new moon on October 6, 2021 (Libra) will align with Mars and everyone will feel powerful cosmic energy shifts.  On the positive side there will be passion, optimism, resourcefulness and intense desire to connect on a deeper level with friends, family and romantic relationships.  However, be aware as there will be equal measure (balanced scales) of negativity in the form of anger, aggression and impatience.  There will be a lot of   “growth opportunities”  that will present themselves.  Have no fear as it is all as it is supposed to be and the challenges are there in order for you to grow to be your best and highest self.  The number one recommendation on how to successfully navigate this month to get the best outcome is to remember to hit the “pause” button as often as necessary. When encountering opposition be sure to stop and take a breath before proceeding. This will ensure you are responding and not reacting. That split second will put you back in control and provide the opportunity to think and put some space between the situation and your knee-jerk reaction to provide the best short and long-term results. As always, new moons reflect the cosmic window of new beginnings and planting seeds in every aspect of your life. However, with Mars in retrograde until the 18th of October, proceed with caution and take your time when making big decisions.

October 7 - 15 Hinduism Navratri

Navratri, also known as Sharada Navarati and Durga Puja, is a nine night/ten day major festival held in honour of the divine feminine to pay tribute to Goddess Durga who defeated the demon king Mahishasura in a battle and celebrating good (Dharma) over evil.  Translated from Sanskrit “Nava” means “Nine” and Ratri” means “Nights”.   Navratri is celebrated in many different ways; religious reflection and fasting while others dance and feast.   During this nine night period, nine avatars (forms or incarnations) of Goddess Durga are worshipped and rituals are prepared in each one’s honor.

October 15 Hindu Vijayadashami

Celebrated on the 10th day of Navratri is Vijayadashami (also known as Dussehra, Dasara or Dashain) On the nine previous days, the various images of Durga commemorating her victory over the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura are worshiped.   Culminating the holiday, clay statues are taken in jubilant processions to oceans or rivers for immersion in water for dissolution and farewell.  In addition, towering effigies of Ravan (symbolizing evil) are burnt marking the destruction of negativity and wickedness.  This festival also starts the preparations for Diwali, the significant Hindu holiday/festival of lights 20 days later on November 4, 2021.

October 18 - 19 Islam Mawlid

Beginning at sundown and celebrated until the following sundown is the holiday of Mawlid. Also known as Mawlid-an-Nabi ash-Sharif or Eid Milad, it is the observance of the birthday of the prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam and the proclaimer of the Qur’an.  Muhammad is believed to have been a descendant of Ishmael. According to Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Isaac and Ishmael were two sons of Abraham. (Jews are believed to have descended from Isaac and Arabs are believed to have descended from Ishmael).  When Muhammad was 40 years old,  he was commanded by the angel Gabriel, carrying the message from God to declare the oneness of God's and to shun the idolatry of his tribesmen. Over the next 20 years, his preaching of the Qur'an, as revealed to him, would establish one of the world's great religions, Islam.  Throughout the world, Muhammad's birthday is celebrated with religious lectures and recitals of verses from the Qur'an.  Mosques are decorated with lights to mark the occasion.  Muslims believe that Muhammad is the epitome and model of love, mercy, compassion, benevolence, generosity, justice and all virtue. By celebrating his birth, Muslims, connect to his message and essence.

October 20 Astrology Full Hunter Moon

Full moon names date back to Native American folklore where they indicated the way tribes kept track of the seasons by giving a distinct name and meaning to each moon.  The October Hunter's Moon derives its name from the hunting of deer and elk that took place this time of year. It is a time of preservation and preparation for the cold weather and long winter months ahead.   This full moon transitions to the dark half of the year and many will feel a sense of urgency in work, household preparations and fiscal planning.  It is a good time for personal reflection, internal work, goal setting and spiritual growth.  Just as the trees are shedding their leaves exposing their core, it’s a good time to cast off ego, vulnerability and bravado to connect to the strength and truth of your core essence. Full moons are the apogee - where the energy is highest to manifest the seeds planted during the new moon.

October 31 Wicca/Pagan Halloween/Samhain

Halloween is more than pumpkins, costumes, and trick or treating, it is also celebrated as a powerful turning point in the wheel of the year and the cycle of life;  death and rebirth.  In the northern hemisphere, the leaves are falling, plants are dying, animals are planning for hibernation.   Nature is intuitively preparing for shorter days and the cold winter ahead..  This cycle continues year after year and harmonizes with the Pagan festival of Samhain (October 31st) when the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is believed to be the thinnest.  Traditionally coinciding with the final harvest of the season and the spirit of end, anxiety and fear energies are heightened.  While it is a good time to connect with this sensation to welcome the unknown, be sure to cleanse for protection, strengthen your psychic abilities, connect with your guardian angels and pay attention to your intuition.  You may wish to say a prayer or blessing for those who have passed, then stop and listen to receive a message or gain insight from them.
